After Flo makes an ovulation prediction, we build the fertile window by combining the four to five days before ovulation, the ovulation day, and one to two days after ovulation. The minimum fertile window will be seven days. These calculations are based on the fact that sperm can survive in the female body for up to five days, and the egg is viable for up to 24 hours.
If you haven’t logged at least three cycles or if your recent cycles vary in length a lot, Flo will build a longer fertile window (up to 14 days). However, when Flo has enough information about you or the cycle variation decreases, the fertile window will get back to seven days.
Remember that period and ovulation predictions are for informational and educational purposes only and should not be used as a method of contraception or for planning a pregnancy. If you are trying to conceive or avoid pregnancy, please consult your health care provider for advice on effective and medically appropriate options.
